Clear Vision and Comfortable Eyes
Contact lenses are a great alternative to glasses or corrective eye surgery. They allow you the freedom and flexibility to go glasses-free, whether for function or fashion. Whether you’re interested in switching to contact lenses full-time or want the flexibility to wear contacts occasionally, we can help you find the right fit.
We excel at fitting our patients with traditional soft and rigid gas-permeable contact lenses for nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia. As well, we offer a range of specialty contact lenses for those who need a more custom option.
The first step to get into contacts is a contact lens exam and fitting. Book yours today.

Finding Your Fit
A contact lens prescription differs from your regular eyewear prescription. Because contact lenses sit directly on your eye, we have a few extra steps that are necessary to find a safe, comfortable fit.
During your contact lens exam, we will use an Oculus Keratograph to measure the shape of the front of your eyes for a custom fit and precise prescription.
We will also assess the health of your eye and your vision needs. We will discuss our contact lens options, including our standard soft contact lenses or rigid gas-permeable lenses. We’ll also let you know if we recommend one of our specialty contact lens options based on your prescription or existing eye conditions.
Caring for Contact Lenses
Once your lenses are ready, we’ll book an appointment to make sure they fit comfortably and provide you with clear vision. We’ll also book a follow-up appointment within a month to check in on how your lenses are feeling day-to-day. For more complex fittings, we may book additional follow-up appointments.
During your fitting, we will instruct you on how to care for your lenses to keep your contact lenses in good condition and prevent eye infections. Because contact lenses are placed directly on your eye, hygiene is of the utmost importance.
While we will give you specific instructions based on your specific contact lenses, we recommend that all contact lens wearers follow these guidelines:
- Wash your hands with soap and water, and dry them thoroughly before inserting or removing contact lenses
- Remove your contact lenses before going to sleep (except for overnight contacts)
- Book annual, comprehensive eye exams to make sure your eyes are tolerating the lenses well
- Avoid showering, swimming, or going in a hot tub while wearing contact lenses
- Only clean reusable contact lenses with contact lens solution; never use tap water
- Do not reinsert single-use contact lenses after removing them
- Replace and care for your contact lenses following your optometrist’s instructions
Contact Lens Exams Are Essential
Contact lenses are medical devices. They require a professional exam and fitting to keep your eyes safe and healthy. Wearing poor-quality contact lenses, such as colorful costume contacts, can damage your eyes. We recommend always speaking with your optometrist before purchasing contact lenses to keep your eyes safe and healthy.
Our contact lens department, the Contact Lens Institute of Houston, focuses on accurate evaluation and fitting for both standard soft contact lenses and rigid gas-permeable lenses, as well as specialty contact lenses, such as scleral, ortho-k, and myopia management lenses.
Beyond keeping your eyes healthy, contact lens exams also allow us to find a precise and comfortable fit so you can wear your contacts without concern. If you’re ready to update your prescription or interested in trying out contact lenses for the first time, book your appointment today.
