Custom-Fit Specialty Lenses

Some eyes require more than standard contact lenses to achieve clear, comfortable, and stable vision. We specialize in advanced contact lens solutions for patients whose eyes benefit from a truly customized approach.

Scleral lenses are a cornerstone of our practice, especially for patients with keratoconus. In addition to scleral lenses, we offer a full range of specialty contact lens options, including:

  • Custom soft contact lenses for non-standard prescriptions
  • Rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses for sharp, stable vision
  • Hybrid lenses, which combine the clarity of RGP lenses with the comfort of a soft lens

Our approach is simple: match the right lens design to the right eye. Through a comprehensive contact lens evaluation, we determine which specialty lens option provides the best combination of vision, comfort, and long-term eye health.

If you have struggled with contact lenses in the past or were told you were not a candidate, custom-fit specialty lenses may offer a clear path forward.

Our Specialty Contact Lens Options

We have doctors who excel in fitting an array of specialty contact lenses for hard-to-fit eyes. Whether you have a corneal abnormality, such as keratoconus, or have experienced corneal surgeries, such as a transplant, LASIK, or PRK, or you suffer from dry eye syndrome, we’re here to help you find the right fit.

Explore the specialty contact lens we fit:

Scleral contact lenses have a unique shape. With a wide diameter, these rigid gas-permeable lenses are designed to sit on the white part of your eyes, the sclera, rather than on your cornea. The space between the lens and the cornea is filled with a special saline solution, which provides clear vision and continuous moisture to your eyes during wear.

This makes scleral lenses a great option for those with corneal irregularities, such as individuals with keratoconus, corneal dystrophies, severe dry eye syndrome, or those who have had corneal surgery (including corneal transplants, LASIK, PRK, etc.).

Hybrid contact lenses have a distinct design to maximize clarity and comfort. We use SynergEyes hybrid contact lenses.

Most commonly, we fit hybrid lenses for patients with a significant amount of astigmatism. Hybrid lenses can provide these patients with stable vision that doesn’t shift or vary as they may have experienced with standard soft contact lenses.

We may also recommend hybrid lenses for patients with irregular corneas and may recommend these lenses as an alternative to scleral lenses.

Multifocal contact lenses include multiple powers, or prescription levels, within the lens to allow you to see near and far distances without needing reading glasses.

Multifocal lenses are especially useful for patients with presbyopia (age-related farsightedness), but can also be useful as a myopia management method for nearsighted kids.

Myopia control contact lenses are specially designed to slow the progression of myopia (nearsightedness) in children. During childhood, myopia can increase rapidly, with your child’s prescription increasing by 0.05 D or more each year. Increased myopia is also associated with an increased risk of serious eye conditions that can develop in the future.

Myopia control contact lenses correct your child’s nearsightedness for clear vision, while also signaling to the eye to slow its elongation. These lenses can be a powerful myopia management method that leaves your child or teen free to participate in sports and other activities without worrying about their glasses.

Ortho-k, or orthokeratology, are specially designed rigid gas-permeable contact lenses, custom-fit to your eyes. They are worn overnight and gently reshape your cornea while you sleep. By reshaping your cornea, we adjust the way light is focused on your retina, providing you with clear vision during the day, free of glasses or contacts. Ortho-k lenses are useful for both myopia (nearsightedness) and mild astigmatism.

Because they are worn overnight, ortho-k lenses are a great option for people with an active lifestyle, those who struggle with daytime contacts due to dry eyes, and individuals looking for an alternative to refractive surgery. Ortho-k lenses have also been clinically and scientifically proven to slow the progression of myopia in children and adolescents.
